Student Life in Istanbul

Divided by the Bosphorus and built on two continents, Asia and Europe; Istanbul is a metropolis, which is the intersection point of different civilizations. Thanks to its rich historical and cultural heritage dating back to Byzantium, there are many historical places to explore in Istanbul. Declared as the European Capital of Culture in 2010, Istanbul is a city that hosts  many important cultural and sporting events, concerts and festivals as well as its natural beauty.

dIstanbul has one of the best public transportation networks in the world. There are several options to reach any location for 24 hours, and Taxi is a convenient option compared to large metropolitans in the world and other cities in Turkey.

Since Istanbul is a densely populated city, each town district has its own shops, stores, eateries, schools, hospitals etc. This is to say you do not have to travel far for your needs. Modern shopping malls are everywhere in Istanbul and some of them are highly popular among tourists. They are also known as AVM’s from the Turkish acronym.

s Like in some other countries, in Turkey there is also the traditional community market place which is called “Pazar”. Every day Pazar moves to some other street for the convenience of the residents of a respective district. People prefer shopping from the Pazars since the freshest produce for reasonable prices can be found here. Bargaining is welcome at Pazars. Some sellers will allow you to feel and pick the goods yourself.

There are many religious places (Mosques, Churches, Synagogues,...) located in İstanbul. You can either pray or visit these places for free.

Istanbul has a rich cultural and artistic life. Its historical monuments reflect the city’s history as the capital of three world empires and more than 1,800 years of history. The city has world-class museums, several concert halls, a vibrant art community, movie theaters throughout the city, and several world-class culture and arts festivals, such as the annual Music and Jazz Festivals or Film Festivals.
